SPORT COORDINATOR
As a sports coordinator, you are responsible for the sports aspect of LOKO's operations. You are involved in organizing activities for students with a sporting focus, such as the 24-hour run and the Survival of the Student, and you actively contribute to the sports policy of KU Leuven and the University Sports Center as a student representative on the Board of Directors. Finally, you support the Leuven student associations in organizing sporting events.
WHAT KIND OF PROFILE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
You are sporty and want to get as many students as possible to participate in sports. You can work well in a team and lead others. As the person ultimately responsible for mega-events like the 24-hour run, you are very stress-resistant and remain pleasant to deal with.
TIME SPENT
You coordinate the sports department of LOKO consisting of both volunteers, interns, and student workers. This includes, among other things: planning, leading, organizing, and evaluating traditional sports activities such as IFB, 24-hour run, Survival of the Student (in collaboration with Apolloon)... You are also responsible for evaluating and setting up new sports activities in collaboration with the sports coordinators of the circles. You encourage the faculty circles to offer sports activities and support them where necessary. You unite the circle representatives in the working meeting (WV) Sports. You coordinate the volunteers who help with the various activities. You guide students who are interning (for example, in sports policy and management) who assist with the various events. In collaboration with the mandate holder for business relations, you recruit partners for the events. You represent the interests of Leuven students in, among other things, the Board of Directors (RvB) of the University Sports Center. There are also other partners and consultations, but they do not meet annually. You also share responsibility for student workers. Additionally, you manage part of the lending service of LOKO.
MEETINGS
As a coordinator at LOKO, you are also expected to attend a number of meetings. The number of meetings may seem quite extensive. In practice, they are usually sufficiently spaced out and it all works out well. If you can't make it once, that's not a disaster. We are all volunteers among ourselves.
- WORK MEETING (WV) SPORTS
As a coordinator, you chair the working meeting of your department. For Sports, this takes place on average weekly until the 24-hour relay. After that, it is organized biweekly, taking into account possible agenda items. At the WV, the representatives of the student circles from the same area of interest come together. You discuss the organization of events and check representation matters with like-minded individuals before bringing them to the WV Student Policy.
- DAILY BOARD (DaBu)
As a member of the DaBu, you participate in the meetings. These take place on average once a week. In these meetings, you address the more practical and day-to-day operations of LOKO: from changes in sub-budgets to discussing small and large problems and challenges for the team.
- BOARD OF DIRECTORS (RvB)
Every so often, a Board of Directors meeting also takes place. Together with some more experienced (former) LOKO board members, you discuss the long-term files and the larger budget changes.
- GENERAL BUREAU (AB)
You also sit on the General Bureau. Here, all volunteers from LOKO - DaBu and representatives, possibly also project staff - come together and discuss the progress made in the past period. Additionally, you prepare files and notes for the AB that will then be presented to the AV. The AB takes place biweekly during the teaching weeks and is usually followed by a small team-building activity: the après-AB.
- GENERAL MEETING (AV) & WORK MEETING (WV) STUDENT POLICY
Alternating with the AB, the General Assembly & Working Meeting on Student Policy – AV & WV Student Policy – takes place biweekly on Friday evenings. You support the chairperson where needed, together with the other DaBu members. The AV discusses administrative matters concerning the internal organization of LOKO, while the WV Student Policy addresses representation issues. All student representatives from the student circles come together to take positions and make decisions on matters that concern their students. As the sports coordinator, you are needed to propose a specific agenda item or to mentally support your LOKO colleagues. After the AV/WV, we head to a fakbar to get to know each other better!
- MANDATE MEETINGS
Depending on your role, you are also part of those meetings for which you are specifically elected. For Sports, these are the Board of Directors of the University Sports Center and any other sports-related bodies.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU?
You are ultimately responsible for several very large events and succeed in bringing them to a successful conclusion. You encourage students to participate in sports and follow the policy decisions in the sports domain within KU Leuven and the city of Leuven. You coordinate the LOKO Sports department and, as a co-director, are responsible for the entire LOKO story. You also step in where and when needed.
WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?
The LOKO team and the students/partners you work with create a young and grateful environment. You get the chance to learn to hold meetings and collaborate, and to meet many interesting people and network within the sports world. You gain experience in organizing sporting events. Finally, you have the opportunity to help shape the sports policy of KU Leuven and the city of Leuven.

ARE YOU INTERESTED?
You will be put in contact with the current sports coordinator: they will explain what the mandate entails and inform you about recent files. Are you convinced? Yay! Then you can submit your application by email to loko@loko.be, consisting of your CV and a motivation letter. As a sports coordinator, you will also draft a vision document, usually in consultation with the rest of the upcoming DaBu. You will then receive the questions you need to prepare for your election. After that, you will go through the election procedure at the General Assembly. Don't worry! It may all sound a bit scary, but you are never alone: the current and upcoming LOKO team will gladly guide you and is always ready to help.
