Frequently Asked Questions
Which other organizations can you apply for subsidies from?
- For cultural activities subsidies can be applied for at the culture committee of KU Leuven.
- Circles that are also a faculty consultation body are advised to apply for their non-profit subsidies at the Student Council of KU Leuven.
- Circles can often also turn to their CC, POC, or Faculty Board for larger projects.
- Large cultural projects can also receive a subsidy from the Province of Flemish Brabant or from the Flemish Government. Those organizations also expect a particularly detailed motivation..
Can a LOKO subsidy be combined with another subsidy?
Yes, a LOKO subsidy can be combined with other subsidies as long as no profit is made. The application must explain which costs will be covered by LOKO subsidies and which by other means.
To be eligible for a LOKO subsidy, an activity must be accessible to all Leuven students and no distinction may be made between members and non-members.
Can discounts be offered for culture or sports card holders?
Yes, that is even mandatory if the association also applies for subsidies from the culture committee.
Is the lending service of KU Leuven free for independent associations?

I can't quite imagine what such a project grant entails. Are there examples available?
We have developed a number of cases that — unless there are exceptional circumstances — would certainly receive a project grant.
- Three Leuven circles and two recognized independent associations want to organize an “Urban Run” through Leuven for students in Leuven. It is estimated that the event will attract 1000 runners. Communication will be in English & Dutch. The event is currently budgeted at a loss.
- Two students from the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies want to organize a panel discussion with representatives of different religions around a number of ethical themes. The event is free and will be conducted in Dutch. All Leuven students are welcome.
- In the run-up to the elections, five political student associations are organizing a debate between the leaders of different parties. All Leuven students can come to this.
- A Leuven circle would like to offer a free lecture series on the topic of “Sustainability.” For this, they invite three specialists in the field of sustainability. The event will be communicated bilingually to all Leuven students.
- Two cultural associations from Leuven are organizing a trip to an art festival in the Netherlands. No priority is given to members of the associations. The event is also communicated sufficiently broadly and bilingually.
