Student Unions and Free Associations

LOKO supports student unions and free associations in their operations. Below you will find an overview of all student unions and free associations connected to LOKO. A student unions consists of students from one or more fields. It represents those students in the General Assembly of LOKO. Free associations are recognized by LOKO and receive an operational subsidy for this. They do not sit in the General Assembly and are, apart from the criteria for recognition, not bound by LOKO.

180 Degrees Consulting Leuven

180 Degrees Consulting Leuven is a student organization that aims to create social impact by executing various projects for non-profit organizations. 

AIESEC

AIESEC helps students to do volunteer work or internships abroad through an exchange program. The association even helps you create your CV. 

AFC

AFC or 'Academics For Companies' is an association that aims to bridge the gap between academic education and the business world. 

AMIS Leuven

AMIS Leuven is an association for AMbitious and Impactful Students who want to make an impact with their careers. Through workshops, lectures, conferences, and team buildings, they bring out the moral ambition in you and connect you with other world changers.

Arenbergorkest

The largest symphonic student orchestra in Leuven that organizes a performance each semester around a specific theme. In addition to rehearsing, the student orchestra also organizes other events such as movie nights and parties.

Artifex

Artifex has as its main goal the broadening and enrichment of the individual's mind by offering creative, alternative, and especially relaxing activities. This is expressed, for example, in cantus events, but also in other activities such as self-defense initiation or a magic night.

Bahá'í Student ​Club

Every other week the Baha'i Student Club offers a safe space where students living in Leuven can come together to connect and indulge in uplifting get togethers. We like to be inspired by quotes from the Baha'i teachings and the rest of the evening is filled with meaningful conversations and a fun new activity each time.

BeMSA Leuven

BeMSA Leuven is a local branch of BeMSA, or the “Belgian Medical Students Association”, which organises a wide range of projects for all sections of society. It is a student organisation dedicated to social welfare and health.

BEST Leuven

The Board of European Students of Technology is an association of engineers that aims to give engineering and bioengineering students in Leuven the opportunity to gain international experience. In this way, they seek to break down geographical barriers and teach their members about the cultures of their fellow Europeans. They are best known for their summer courses in European cities.

Beta Sigma Club

The Beta Sigma Club is shaping the next generation of quants by encouraging students to engage with financial markets in a creative and critical manner.

Blase

Blase is the first student organisation dedicated to helping students develop management and leadership skills. Find out more about organisational management, people management, change management, international management and more through our bootcamp or one of our public events.

Bloedserieus Leuven

Bloedserieus Leuven is a group of students aiming to encourage young people to become blood donors. They do this in partnership with the Red Cross. For example, every year they organise ‘Bloedserieus Week’, during which donors receive goodie bags after giving blood.

Cantores Lovanienses

Cantores Lovanienses is a student male choir that performs polyphonic renditions of songs from the student songbook. The society aims to present the tradition of the cantus in a positive light.

Capitant

Capitant is an association aimed at further guiding students in the financial market in all aspects worldwide.

CDS Leuven

CDS or the 'Christian Democratic Students Leuven' is a student association for the Leuven Christian Democratic student. Every Tuesday they organize discussion evenings, debates, or workshops.

Checkmate KU Leuven

The KU Leuven Chess Club is all about bringing students together through a shared love for chess. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, the club is a space to meet new people, make friends, and enjoy one of the oldest games in the world. We organize chess tournaments with prizes and chess gatherings just for friendly battles.

Chimes Leuven

We form the Leuven branch of the national student association: Chimes - Surgery for medical students. Through workshops and lectures, we provide a platform for developing skills and knowledge around surgery in all its aspects.

COMAC

COMAC is a movement of Leuven students committed to free, quality, and democratic education and to socialism in general.

D&D Students Leuven

We are a student association where playing and learning D&D and other TTRPGs is central. We organize evenings to play together and to learn from each other. For this, we organize workshops and once a month an evening to play D&D together (campaigns or one shots).

ELSA Leuven

ELSA Leuven is an organization aimed at linking legal theory to legal practice. The association supports law students and helps them prepare for a future career.

Emergent

Emergent Leuven is the Data Science and A.I. student association in Leuven where we want to welcome all backgrounds. As an organization, we believe that Data & A.I. will change all facets of our future society.

Euroavia Leuven

EUROAVIA Leuven is a local group of EUROAVIA, the European association of aerospace students. We organize company visits, lectures, and workshops in the field of aviation and space.

Food Saving Leuven

Food Saving Leuven is an initiative committed to reducing the amount of food wasted in Leuven by building a strong network of dedicated foodsavers who collect surplus, expired, or unwanted food from local shops and supermarkets. Through accessible distribution points where food can be dropped off and freely shared, we connect businesses and residents to turn surplus into opportunity and create a more sustainable community.

Formula Electric Belgium

Formula Electric Belgium is a team of engineering students from KU Leuven and Thomas More, which builds a 'Formula-like' electric race car every year. We do this to give innovation a boost and enable future engineers to work with the technology of tomorrow. The car consists of 1370 fully self-designed parts, with the end result being a very powerful car. The students take part in the Formula Student competition, where they defend the Belgian tricolor against teams from all over the world. In addition to designing, building and racing their latest car, the team tries to sensitize society about green electrical energy while also inspiring the youth by giving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) sessions.

Google Developer Group KU Leuven

We are the official Google Developer Groups chapter at KU Leuven - a vibrant, student-powered tech community backed by Google and connected to a global network across 140+ countries. Through workshops, expert talks, hackathons, and socials, we empower curious minds to build real-world skills, grow their passions, and shape the future of tech.

Humasol

Humasol aims to make renewable energy, water, and sustainable technology accessible to everyone. The organization has projects running in Africa, Asia, and South America.

I2IMPACT

I2IMPACT is an organization that wants to give students the opportunity to have a social impact both domestically and internationally through social entrepreneurship. I2IMPACT does this by organizing foreign projects and events/workshops in Belgium.

IAAS Leuven

International organization for students in bioengineering, biology, agriculture, environment, nutrition, and related fields.

IAESTE Leuven

International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience is an association that guides engineering students and recent graduates towards an international work experience.

Ichtus

Ichtus focuses on Christian students and supporters in Leuven. On Wednesdays, they have a regular Ichtus evening where they sing, pray, and engage in Bible study.

InciSioN Leuven

InciSioN Leuven is a local subcommittee of the global eponymous movement on a mission to unite, empower, and inspire the next generation of leaders in Global Surgery. Our vision is to create a connected network of students and young physicians passionate about surgery, fostering international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and advocacy for equitable surgical care worldwide. Through education, evidence-based innovation, and community engagement, we aim to break down barriers, promote diversity, and contribute to the advancement of global surgical knowledge and practices.

Jong Groen Leuven

With Jong Groen Leuven, we work on progressive themes such as ecology, sustainability, inclusion, solidarity, and equal opportunities.

Jong N-VA Leuven

The local branch of Jong N-VA aims to bring together Jong N-VA members in Leuven and those studying in Leuven. The association focuses primarily on student issues, but does not lose sight of local politics.

KULMUN

The KU Leuven Model United Nations Association is an organisation that focuses primarily on MUN. These are meetings where students debate the most pressing issues addressed by the UN and seek solutions to existing problems. These may include issues such as the legalisation of autonomous weapons or women’s rights in less developed countries.

KU Leuven Photography Club

The Photography Club (KU Leuven) is a student society dedicated to photography. Students can come here for information about photography or to share their interests with one another.

LCM SA

LCM SA, or the ‘Leuven Centre for Collaborative Management Student Association’, organises workshops for its members on negotiation techniques.

Leuven Debating Society

The Leuven Debating Society is an organisation dedicated to all things related to debating.

Leuven Juris Club

The Leuven Juris Club is an association of law students that provides legal advice to students, private individuals, start-ups, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Leuvens Universitair Koor

The Leuven University Choir is a mixed concert choir made up of students from Leuven. As well as musical activities such as concerts, performances and rehearsal weekends, the choir also organises student-oriented events such as cantuses and parties.

LHC Plutonica

Plutonica is an academic corps in Leuven where student fun and traditions go hand in hand. Whether you love culture, stylish events, or just unforgettable evenings with friends: with us, you will find all this and a friendship bond for life. LUAK

The Leuven University Climbers Club is a club for climbers in Leuven. The association organizes activities that are directly or indirectly related to climbing. Members go climbing together in the Ardennes every Sunday, for example.

Minos

Minos is an association that works around Europe. The association tries to encourage students to think critically about the European project; this can range from European politics and culture to history and science. Minos regularly organizes workshops, lectures, and debates.

Napoleon Loopclub

At the Napoleon Running Club, we exercise together every week. Usually, we participate in various disciplines of athletics, but occasionally other sports are practiced as well. Our focus is on providing an accessible opportunity to exercise and to meet new people while doing so.

NEXT Leuven

NEXT Leuven, formerly Academics For Technology, is a Leuven student organization that focuses on start-ups, entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology. They organize events, workshops, projects, and startup trips to inspire and support students in their entrepreneurial and innovative ambitions.

Pati Pati

Pati Pati is a student choir that wants to make the world a little better by singing, for example by holding a concert for a good cause. Everyone is welcome!

Preparee

Preparee is a student improvisational theater group. The association holds weekly training sessions, regular performances, workshops, and improvisation events. All students are welcome to join for training every Tuesday evening.

Studenten Voor Solidariteit

Students for Solidarity is a project for and by Leuven students with a focus on solidarity, ecology, North-South cooperation, and (international) justice.

The Voice

The Voice is a magazine that regularly produces high-quality content in English, created by students for students in Leuven. The magazine publishes articles and broadcasts a weekly radio show on a variety of topics covering life in Leuven, art and culture, opinions and politics, and the sciences, with the aim of keeping all students up to date with the latest news and the interests and views of their fellow students.

Thiasos

Thiasos is a society for students of Greek, Latin, Hebrew or Ancient History, or for students interested in classical culture. The society aims to be a meeting place where members can explore classical cultures in a non-academic setting.

TSL

The Turkish Students’ Association Leuven (TSL) is a student organisation that brings together Turkish students in Leuven through social, cultural and educational activities. We strive to foster a sense of community, identity and openness within a diverse student environment.

UHO

The Leuven University Harmonieorkest (or UHO vzw for short) was founded in 1979 on the initiative of the then Rector, Pieter De Somer. Today, the UHO comprises students, alumni and staff members from KU Leuven and UC Leuven-Limburg. Together, they work towards a number of musical highlights throughout the academic year.

Ujeli Care Center

Ujeli Care Center vzw is an organisation of medical and dental students with a passion for development work. We aim to provide access to primary healthcare and preventive medical care for children and adolescents in the Pokhara region of Nepal.

ULYSSIS

Unix Lovers Yield Student Services and Internet Support is a student society that aims to make technology more accessible to students and staff at KU Leuven. The society provides hosting services, workshops, job fairs and support at events.

Una.lliance

Una.lliance is a student-led initiative that promotes transnational collaboration and engagement within the framework of the Una Europa alliance. Our purpose is to create inclusive student experience by organasing local events and intiatives to inform and engage KU Leuven students of Una Europa opportunities.

Unitas

Unitas Leuven is aimed at students with disabilities in Leuven. The association provides a platform where students can come together, share ideas and take part in accessible activities. Everyone, whether with or without a disability, is welcome to take part in or contribute to the activities.

UNYA

UNYA Leuven is a local branch of UNYA Flanders, the youth wing of the Association for the United Nations (VVN). Through the VVN and UNYA Flanders, UNYA Leuven organises activities for and by students on UN-related topics, international cooperation, and the foreign policies of Belgium and Flanders.

USO (Universitair Symfonisch Orkest)

The University Symphony Orchestra of the Catholic University of Leuven, known as the USO for short, is a symphony orchestra made up of students from Leuven. The USO gives several concerts each year both at home and abroad. In addition, it organises fun, student-oriented activities such as parties and cantuses.

Wetswinkel Leuven

Wetswinkel Leuven is an association of law students that offers free advice on tenancy matters to both tenants and landlords.

Wieslandia

Wieslandia is a student society that aims to bring together students who enjoy playing cards. Members meet regularly to play a game of cards over a drink.

YERA

The Young Energy Reviewers Association is an organisation dedicated to shedding light on energy issues.

ASA

The Asian Student Association aims to bring together Leuven students with an Asian background to create a pleasant student and friend group. 

ASAL 5African Studentes Association Leuven)

ASAL is a network that provides African students and their non-African friends with a Leuven-based interactive social network, cultural exchange and support. Founded on the basis of representation in activities for Africa, ASAL fosters visibility of African students within KU Leuven/Leuven, cultivates inter/intra-African knowledge/culture exchange and promotes African influence, diversity, outreach and transformation agenda.

ASL

The Armenian Students Leuven is a group of Armenian students who want to bring together students and young professionals with an Armenian background.

CSAL

CSAL or 'The Chinese Students and Scholars Association of Leuven' aims to bring together students with a Chinese background by planning activities together.

Dar Leuven

Dar Leuven is a Moroccan student association that invites students to come together to explore the rich history and culture of Morocco. It connects students on an academic and cultural level.

ESN Leuven

ESN or 'Erasmus Student Network' is the largest student association in Europe and represents international students. International students include both Erasmus students and students returning from an international experience.

ISAL

ISAL or 'Indian Student Association Leuven' is an organization that tries to bring European and Indian cultures as close together as possible by organizing cultural events.

Janus International Theatre

We are an international theatre group. We gather members from all over the world. All of our activities are in English. Some of the activities you can encounter in Janus involve: improvisation games, script writing, and acting, of course. We focus mainly on comedy. We like to have fun while doing theatre.Our rehearsals take place at Pangaea in the hub on Saturday evenings. We generally do two plays a year at Pangaea.You don't need to be a professional. Everybody is welcome to join!

KULTUR

KULTUR is an association for Turkish students at KU Leuven. The association aims to bring Turkish students closer together, help them find their feet at KU Leuven, and keep Turkish culture alive.

Leuven Gakusei Forum

The Leuven Gakusei Forum is a society primarily aimed at students of Japanese Studies or Japanese students in Leuven, but it is open to everyone. The society organises events to help people make friends and promote intercultural exchange.

Leuven Latin American Student Society

The Leuven Latin American Student Society aims to bring together undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students who share an origin from or a deep interest in Latin America. This inclusive initiative seeks to celebrate the rich cultural, social, and academic diversity of the region, offering a space for connection, collaboration, and dialogue.

Sarv - Iranian Student Association

Sarv is an association that supports students with Iranian backgrounds and celebrates the diverse culture of Iran by organizing various events.

Wasl

Wasl is an Afghan student association that provides a supportive platform for students to share their experiences, thoughts and challenges. Our mission is to bring students together, build a strong community and celebrate Afghan culture through engaging events, meaningful discussions and cultural activities.

KOCO (Faculty-wide Coordinating Body) Arts is the umbrella organisation for the six student societies within the Faculty of Arts, dedicated to coordinating between these societies and organising faculty-wide events.

OKeR

OKeR is UCLL’s umbrella student council, which plays an advisory and organisational role. Our board comprises members with experience within the UCLL student societies: De Kelten, Diana, Docentica, StEIL and SocA. This enables us to provide the most accurate and tailored advice possible and to organise successful events!

Scientica

Scientica is the umbrella organisation for the four science societies in Leuven (Atlas, BIOS, Chemika, Wina) within the Faculty of Sciences. Scientica focuses on cross-society activities, the course service and representation for all science students at KU Leuven.
