COORDINATOR COMMUNICATION
As Coordinator Communication, you are the ultimate responsible person for LOKO’s communication team. You actively think about LOKO's image and try to always present LOKO in the best light together with the Communication representatives. You also ensure a professional profile of LOKO on the worldwide web. As a coordinator, you lead your team where and when necessary and ensure that there is sufficient follow-up and overview in terms of communication for each department within LOKO.
WHAT KIND OF PROFILE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
You are someone with a passion for all aspects of communication and a solid knowledge of social media, websites, and visual design. If you cannot handle some of these tasks yourself, you seek additional volunteers to delegate the tasks. You are capable of creating and executing a communication plan and managing volunteers and staff members. You can maintain a good overview of the entire operation of the organization.
TIME SPENT
You are involved in advertising, posters, social media, and develop original actions or outsource them to promote the various activities and branches of LOKO. You have a continuous attitude to encourage the representatives to share files and news about student representation. You think about the image and perception of LOKO and how to improve or maintain it. Moreover, you oversee a uniform house style together with the graphic designer. You also closely monitor the follow-up of activities and campaigns such as the awareness campaign, the recruitment campaign, the purple campaign… You support circles if they wish.
MEETINGS
As a coordinator at LOKO, you are also expected to attend a number of meetings. The number of meetings may seem quite extensive. In practice, they are usually sufficiently spread out and it all works out well. If you can't make it once, that's not a disaster. We are all volunteers among ourselves.
- WORK MEETING (WM) COMMUNICATION
As a coordinator, you chair the work meeting (WM) of your department. For Communication, this takes place on average once per semester, you organize the WM when there seems to be a need. At the WM, the representatives of the student circles from the same area of interest come together. You discuss best practices in communication and check any representation matters with like-minded individuals before bringing them to the WM Student Policy.
- DAILY BOARD (DaBu)
As a member of the DaBu, you follow the meetings. These take place on average once a week. In these meetings, you address the more practical and day-to-day operations of LOKO: from changes in sub-budgets to discussing small and large problems and challenges for the team.
- BOARD OF DIRECTORS (RvB)
From time to time, a Board of Directors meeting also takes place. Together with some more experienced (former) LOKO board members, you will discuss long-term files and larger budget changes.
- GENERAL OFFICE (AB)
You also sit on the General Office. Here, all volunteers from LOKO - DaBu and representatives, possibly also project staff - come together and discuss the progress made in the past period. Additionally, you prepare files and notes for the AB that will then be presented to the AV. The AB takes place biweekly during the teaching weeks and is usually followed by a small team-building activity: the après-AB.
- GENERAL MEETING (AV) & WORK MEETING (WV) STUDENT POLICY
Alternating with the AB, the General Meeting & Work Meeting Student Policy – AV & WV Student Policy – takes place biweekly on Friday evenings. You support, together with the other DaBu members, the chairperson where needed. In the AV, board matters concerning the internal organization of LOKO are discussed, while in the WV Student Policy we address representation issues. All student representatives from the student circles come together to take positions and make decisions on matters that concern their students. As the communication coordinator, you are needed to propose a specific agenda item or to mentally support your LOKO colleagues. After the AV/WV, we head to a fakbar to get to know each other better!
- MANDATE MEETINGS
Depending on your role, you will also be part of those meetings for which you are specifically elected. You organize and lead a weekly communication meeting with the communication team. You also participate in other meetings regarding any events and campaigns of the city and Leuven higher education institutions.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU?
You are responsible for coordinating the communication department of LOKO, which includes volunteers and staff members. In the case of interns who support the communication department, you guide them. Your participation as a board member in the operation and management of LOKO is important, and you show commitment to also assist in other departments where and when needed.
WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?
The LOKO team and the students/partners you work with form a young and appreciative environment. You get the chance to learn to hold meetings and collaborate, as well as to meet many interesting people and network. You gain experience in managing a communication department and policy. Moreover, you gain this experience in a fulfilling role.

TEAMMATES
The communication team usually consists of a coordinator and up to 5 representatives who assist you in the task. Additionally, you can also expect support from a staff member and/or student worker with the responsibilities of graphic design. The other members of the DaBu support you where possible.
ARE YOU INTERESTED?
You’ll be put in touch with the current Communications Coordinator, who’ll explain exactly what the role entails and bring you up to speed on recent issues. Convinced? Great! As Communications Coordinator, you’ll also draft a vision statement, usually in consultation with the rest of the incoming DaBu. You will then receive the questions you need to prepare for your election. After that, you’ll go through the election procedure at the General Assembly. Don’t worry!
