VICE president
As vice president, you are part of the leadership of the organization and support the chairperson where possible. You ensure the internal functioning and are therefore responsible for staff policy, internship policy, and the internal coordination of the team. The vice chair is also ultimately responsible for LOKO’s services and actively contributes to the training offerings. You support the team and the Leuven circles and can, at your discretion, follow up on several social representation aspects. Finally, you supervise (part of) the staff members and follow up on evaluations, occasionally organize team-building activities in collaboration with LOKO Events, and serve as the confidant.
WHAT KIND OF PROFILE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
As vice chair, we are looking for a strong team player who can bring the entire LOKO team together. The vice chair must be very social and diplomatic, can work problem-solving, and is good at delegating and taking on tasks where and when necessary.
TIME COMMITMENT
You will be engaged throughout the entire academic year as a co-director of the organization. Your priorities lie in leading and keeping the team together and in your role as the ultimate responsible person for the Support & Services pillar. If you are following up on some social representation mandates, you ensure that you stay informed about them.
MEETINGS
As vice-chair of LOKO, you are also expected to attend a number of meetings and support the chair in leading the meetings. The number of meetings may seem quite extensive. In practice, they are usually sufficiently spaced out and it all works out well. If you really can't make it once, that's not a disaster. We are all volunteers among ourselves.
- DAILY BOARD (DaBu)
As a member of the DaBu, you participate in the meetings. These take place on average once a week. In these meetings, you address the previously practical and day-to-day operations of LOKO: from changes in sub-budgets to discussing small and large problems and challenges for the team.
- BOARD OF DIRECTORS (RvB)
Every so often, a Board of Directors meeting also takes place. Together with some more experienced (former) LOKO board members, you will address the long-term files and the larger budget changes.
- GENERAL BUREAU (AB)
You also sit on the General Bureau and support the chair in leading the meeting. Here, all volunteers from LOKO - DaBu and representatives, possibly also project staff - come together and discuss the progress made in the past period. Additionally, you prepare files and notes for the AB that will then be presented to the AV. The AB takes place bi-weekly during the teaching weeks and is usually followed by a small team-building activity: the après-AB.
- GENERAL MEETING (AV) & WORK MEETING (WV) STUDENT POLICY
Alternating with the AB, the General Assembly & Working Meeting on Student Policy - AV & WV Student Policy - takes place biweekly on Friday evenings. You support, together with the other DaBu members, the chairperson where needed. In the AV, administrative matters concerning the internal organization of LOKO are discussed, while in the WV Student Policy we address representation issues. All student representatives from the student circles come together to take positions and make decisions on matters that concern their students. As vice-chair, you are needed to propose a specific agenda item or to mentally support your LOKO colleagues. After the AV/WV, we head to a fakbar to get to know each other better!
- SUBSIDY COMMITTEE (Subcom)
As vice-chair, you chair the subsidy committee. The subcom meets approximately monthly and handles subsidy applications and recognition requests from circles, free associations, or individual students. The members of the subcom come from LOKO internally, from the AV, and from the free associations recognized by LOKO.
- MANDATE MEETINGS
Depending on your role, you are also part of those meetings for which you are specifically elected. For the vice-chair, these mainly include the weekly meetings with the staff member(s) of LOKO Central, feedback discussions with staff and volunteers, and the monthly staff meeting. Additionally, there may be meetings regarding the social representation branches that you follow up on. You also monitor the functioning of the RvB of LOKO.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU?
You commit yourself throughout the academic year as a motivated volunteer with loyalty to LOKO. You demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and have communication skills, tact, and can make compromises. Moreover, maintaining team spirit and motivating volunteers and staff members is part of the package. Finally, you will follow one or more representation aspect(s) of your choice.
WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?

You can achieve effective improvements for the Leuven students and learn useful skills for later in your life: collaborating, meeting, working with volunteers, motivating, leading a team... and you get to know a whole lot of interesting people.

TEAMMATES
You work closely with the chairperson and the members of the Executive Board, but you also serve as a point of contact for everyone in the LOKO team.
ARE YOU INTERESTED?
You will be put in contact with the current vice-chair: they will explain to you what the vice-chair position entails and inform you about recent files. Are you convinced? Yay! Then you can submit your application by email to loko@loko.be, consisting of your CV and a motivation letter. As vice-chair, you will also draft a vision document, usually in consultation with the rest of the upcoming DaBu. You will then receive the questions you need to prepare for your election. After that, you will go through the election procedure at the General Assembly. Don't worry! It may all sound a bit scary, but you are never alone: the current and upcoming LOKO team will gladly guide you and is always ready to support you.
